Description
This collection of over 500 tales was compiled in the 1920s as a tribute to the rich oral tradition of African-American storytelling. These stories take the form of testimonials, fables and tall-tales. Each one provides an insight into the African-American experience in the deep South at the turn of the century. Comprised of samples from hundreds of orators, Hurston's volume is impressive in its breadth and scope.
